Have you installed a previous version? Do you have python-2.5-runtime on the device?

You can download and convert for N800 from stage6 with
Nokia N800 Video Convert:

http://xoomer.alice.it/sepaolo/n800vc/

Press Open URL button, insert the video URL and a description, then press OK
A little tip, stop video preview (or press the red X button, to stop the preview) and start the conversion.

I dl the one with ....6c, and installed without any problem. It worked somewhat. Upon streaming, it only sees about 5s then the audio keeps on going, but the video is frozen. Upon dl, it plays the video and audio. The audio works good, but the video is playing about every other frame, or even less, looks like a poor animated cartoon. Hey, this is divx, I am excite, Konttori, excellent job and thank you!

Yeah, I am hoping that ssvb could have a look at the divx optimizations for that stage 6 variant.

I can suggest using '-hardframedrop' option to get higher framerate. It will cause some artefacts on screen, but will allow you to get higher framerate. Both DIVX and XVID are MPEG4 ASP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_2

The difference between them is that XVID uses B-frames when encoding by default and DIVX does not. A good thing about B-frames is that they can be skipped on decoding when cpu is not fast enough, so when you are watching XVID video, some percent of frames can be safely dropped and you will not even notice that. But if the video does not have B-frames, almost all the frames need to be decoded as every sequential frame depends on the previous one. The only exception are keyframes, but they only appear in video once in 10-15 seconds. So if you try to play video which is too heavy to decode, you will only hear audio and see keyframes as a slideshow. It is possible to force mplayer to skip decoding of some frames (-hardframedrop option), but the result is often not very pretty as reference frames get missing and correct decoding is impossible in this case.

To sum everything up, XVID is more friendly to CPU limited devices.

PS. I've done some additional video decoding optimizations which should speed up mplayer. Also mplayer 1.0rc2 was released upstream recently, I'll try to switch to it in the next few days and provide the next build for maemo.

finally got a chance to try it. Unfortunately it was unwatchable. It streamed the first two fremes and then on it just showed a slide show. I think it is too processor intensive to work properly on a n800. I evn tried downoading the video and playing it. But the results were not that good because it skips a few frames. Anyway thank you for trying kontorri. May be the next tablet is just powerful enogh to do it.

What about the B-frame Serge suggest on Xvid? Or some optimization, please?

Yeah i tried with hardframedrop also. It looked more ugly!!!
Actually i wanted this because there is a website callled joox.net which streams high quality divx videos!! Imagine how wonderful it would have been to watch high quality streaming movies with uk tube???
Unfortunately it is not possible now. May be in the future....

it on the
n800 would be sweet, but i do watch video's from stage6 but my way of watching
stage 6 video's on my n800 takes some what of
an project, first i download the video then i use SUPER© to convert the file some
quality is lost. But it works for now.
