Right, and they congregate, as happens here, and some people assume their experience is the norm because they see a complaint thread filled with... complaints.

Typically, manufacturers and retailers will settle for a 5% defect/return rate. Any less and they may be spending "too much" on inspections and oversight, any more and they spend too much on reverse logistics and possibly lost customers. A company won't stay in business long if they crank out, say, 15% defectives.

LOLZ, thx.

And sorry brad81987, it looks like I completely changed the topic of this thread.

Hahaha, no problem. I'm very used to it, in fact I'm equally as guilty of doing it on my car forums. It's all in good fun

welcome to the community it really is these communities around the device that make it what it is, and see the technolgy really come to life, internet tablet talk and a number of others are often featured on the N800 WOM World, which i help run, we're sponsored but like to think we're pretty independent in collecting and posting as much of the conversation around the N800 as we can, hope you enjoy

Thanks. I believe communities like these make using anything more enjoyable. It's much easier to get help or other peoples opinions or just strait information. And although I value the opinion of professional reviewers, I find reviews and comments from everyday people you find on sites like this the most beneficial. I probably wouldn't have ordered an N800 had i not found this site, which was purely by accident.

I have to ask now: what's the significance of rats around here?

When I had to get a hosting company for a website I do, EVERYWHERE I checked out had a terrible reputation on the internet.

No matter what company I picked, the internet was full of horror stories about them. I think the reason is exactly what you touched upon, that major hosting companies have so many sites that there will probably be hundreds or thousands of people who run into serious problems.

The internet was no use at all because it ruled out every company I checked.

In the end I just chose a company that was relatively long established and relatively cheap, and they've been generally okay so far.

I work sales for a major national bank, and whenever someone brings up the 400 or so (all resolved) complaints we've had (out of literally hundreds of thousands of clients) w/ the Better Business Bureau, I usually just look at their email address then do a BBB search on their ISP. When they see THOUSANDS of complaints, it generally calms them.

No matter what you are shopping for, someone will have a complaint for every reputable vendor. Any vendor w/o complaints is probably not doing enough business to stay IN BUSINESS.

As far as this place goes, it certainly is great to see a thriving community that is so obviously using the product to it's fullest. Even if there seems to be some Apple propagandists trolling more often nowadays (are there Nokia trolls on Apple sites?)

I think there are trolls and fanatics on every site. What's scary is when they don't realise what they are, and think they're expressing a genuinely balanced opinion.

It's great if someone says they prefer using their "insert product here", what seems weird and fanatical is when they say everyone else should too, and that one day everyone else will. It's verging on a religion.

Hi,

I'm typing this on my brand new n800! I picked it up from buy.com for $230 plus $16 for a 2GB sd card. So far, it's the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Got a case logic hd case for it today, and I should get a screen protector soon - the
supplied one is already scratched up.

Spent the last hour adding radio streams (bbc radio 4, college radio, etc.).

Within hours of getting it, l had an xterm and ssh, can't see doing that on an itouch.

Meeker
