Oh, my wallet is crying as I type. I'm not really one who has to have the latest and greatest, but I'm really a gadget addict. I still haven't given into Apple, though. ha

sachin007 is right. I bought a 770 when they first launched and while I could see the potential I just found it far too slow to use properly. Compared to that the N800 is a breath of fresh air.

I can't wait to get my hands on a N810 (Prays to the Nokia gods for a Keyboard)

Now that the pictures are out the N810 is, for me, a step down from the N800. If I could have got just an N800+GPS then it would've been an improvement, but to get it I would have to suffer the stupid removal of the dpad from a useful position. So, to wait for the N810 or not depends on if that would be a better device for you than the N800 - it's not a straight forward "latest and greatest".

I'm right there with you on that.

I'm glad the N800 is on the way, but the 810 looks really nice. Love the keyboard. But, $240 was in the price range and $500 is not.

This is great! I get to lust after upgrading to a newer model from a previous internet tablet I haven't gotten yet.

If you look at their tech specs, the N800 and N810 are virtually identical.

The only major advantage of the N810 is the built-in physical keyboard and the built-in GPS, but the actual computing part is the same as the N800: same processor, same RAM, same OS version (OS2008 will be built into the N810, and be available as a free download for N800 users when the N810 launches), same battery life.

As far as I can tell, unless you want the keyboard or the built-in GPS, there's not really any point in getting an N810 instead of an N800.

It seems Nokia never really intended the N810 as a next gen replacement for the N800, but more as a same gen alternative model.

There's a really good comparison of the tablet hardware on the Forum Nokia site:

http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/plat...emo/index.html

Going by the specs, the N800 was clearly a huge step up from the 770, but the N810 is the same as the N800.

Once you get the new device, you won't miss the front-dpad. For browsing, just press space to go to next page. You can easily slide the kb just a bit to access the space key. I think it's pretty darn useful.

Also, for for example gaming purposes, the dpad is better. Why? Because you can press the mid button down, use it as rocker and then put your right thumb on the right side keys and assign two of those as A/B buttons.

So, I think that the dpad is just in the correct place. And works just as well as the previous one.

I'm feeling better about my N800 purchase now that I've read this forum all day and seen the news unfold before my eyes. (great posts) Let's see..when I get it I'll update to OS2007 and then when the N810 comes out to OS2008. I love this!

FedEx Shipping tracking reads the estimated arrival of my N800 is Monday. Maybe I should have saved my $7 and gone for the free Buy.com shipping.

oh I believe you, that' why I'll wait to play with the 800. In about a year, I could probably get an 800 for $55, what I paid for my 770.
