I'm going to wait for Pidgin and Kagu before upgrading. Maemo Mapper, Canola and VNC viewer would also be high on the list.

Ah yes, indeed, forgot about those maps and mp3! of course!

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Pidgin, other than that it's the only app that lets me hit AIM and MSN on my tablet.

The default IM app on the tablet also lets you do that with Jabber.

Let's face it: Transports in jabber are horribly unreliable...

Only if you have a horribly unreliable Jabber server. I've been using the same one for six months and haven't seen it drop once.

Does anyone know if GPE works? (Or Dates and Contacts, if GPE isn't an option.)

Now that I've got Evolution syncing with my N800/GPE, it's finally replaced my old Palm as a PDA.

I liked it better when it was gaim. But it's the only game in town for AIM on the tablet.

Wrong. The built-in Jabber client with a Jabber server that supports transports is far and away the best choice for AIM/MSN/Yahoo/whatever.
