Installed, but not without headaches - you need to capture the RDEPENDS ( OE ipkg terminology -- basically run-time dependencies) better.
Namely:
python
python-gtk2
python-cairo
python-hildon

Once these are installed, it will run. Without it, you get no useful error messages unless you launch from a terminal (which most users do not do).

Looks like mainly eye-candy and a 'gotcha' - "hey, look at the new iPhone v2... psyche!"

having to rotate the screen back and forth is kind of a PITA, but I understand that the hw doesn't support rotation detection - seems like 90+% of the maemo apps are landscape though. I haven't even found a rotate function yet.

I didn't research this yet, but e.g. the OMweather applet does this, so I would assume this is already supported. Managing launcher-applets by application will quickly clutter the applet selection GUI (which on OS2007 doesn't even scroll correctly with too many different applets/plug-ins installed) - adding them per application, when all the necessary information is already there in the menu *.desktop files also seems not aesthetic.

Take a look at simplelauncher!
The only things missing are multiple rows (there was another launcher I tested that supported this, but was overengineered in some other aspects - don't remember the name) and going full screen with the desktop/home area/"backdrop" (newtonese).

Only if it allows you to reduce brightness due to better contrast - since the display is an LCD, backlighting is activated for the whole screen area.

I believe this should be possible via d-bus signals, which can also be sent from command line with dbus-send.

Good point.

The ideal for layout flexibility would be to allow multiple configurable instances of each applet, but putting everything in one applet isn't such a bad alternative. Perhaps iTablet could be written as a desktop applet that allows flexible icon layouts? The things that would be needed from the desktop would then be:

-- Ability to use the full screen. There is an open feature request for this.
-- Support for Python applets (From another thread, I believe this does not exist.)

The option for using a grid layout for applets would also be nice.

o_o...

Wow... Lots to do

Okies, as far as my app is going, again, it's for me to learn python and py-gtk, that's the main goal.

But, I am working on practicality, believe me. Almost done with user-friendly configuration... ehm... thing... for setting the command for each button. This should be up by the weekend.

After that, I'll rig some way to select what image you would like for a space.

Then will come he grid system (I hope!). This would truly be something interesting if I'm able to do what I wish. (Be able to drag and drop icons...)

Wish me luck
