Thanks for the tip of 'moredimmingoptions'

I too wish I had more control over the keyboard light... now I just hit the right Shift key, it's easy enough to find & doesn't enter any input.

yeah , but its still the principle of the thing , i pay $500+ for this device , i should damn well be able to keep the keyboard light on if that is what i desire. why would it be so damn hard to have a full power management panel like my computer does.

Software's not cheap to develop: if Nokia haven't done it, there's nothing stopping a third party. The fact no third party has suggests it's not something which would be worth masses of Nokia's time either.

They've listened and done some work here in OS2008, since there's a "keep screen lit whilst charging" option in Control Panel > Display.

i understand software isnt cheap to develop but its yet another example of half-assery on nokias part for what is otherwise a wonderful product.

The ambient light sensor isn't working for me either - it constantly alternates between dim and bright even when I'm in a well lit environment, so basically it's not working properly and is bl00dy annoying.

I've opened bug #2755 to at least allow the ambient light sensor to be ignored (and as a comment, the sensors position on the fascia is simply mind blowing - didn't anyone think it might be covered by the users thumb?!)

There's a hack/workaround solution in the second comment attached to bug 2755 - needs root access and it permanently disables the light sensor resulting in the N810 thinking it's permanently dark (so the screen is always bright and the keyboard backlight always enabled).

There is actually a hack for this issue... you hack off your left thumb.

Seriously though, I have the exact same issue. Are you telling me not one human hand picked this damn thing up before finalizing the design?? It is impossible not to cover it (maybe it is just me). The light sensor would be perfect positioned in the middle of the top bezel. They could have even left the sensor where it is on the board and run a fiber optic line. That would have worked just as well.

ending my rant.
