Thanks, CSX321. Same config here. Will try on another computer/network.

Well, I restarted the tablet at home last night, and now it sees the shares here. I transferred a bunch of music from my desktop via a share. It was pretty fast. Interestingly, File Manager also shows a "Shared Media" entry for my Orb UPnP server.

Has anyone found anything better than a reboot to force a refresh/reread of shared folders in File Manager? I use GPE calendar and have to restart it and reconfigure it with my preferrences every time I reboot. Thanks.

Menu>Settings>Connection manager>Tools>Connectivity settings>General>Connect automatically>WLAN connections. Reboot.

Do not use Always ask or Phone connection.

The shared folder will then constantly show up. If shared folders suddenly "disappear", re-start file manager and wait for awhile, like 2-3 min, reboot is NOT necessary.

Strangely, these were my settings already so I did not need to change anything.
I had also tried restarting File Manager and waiting for a long time (much more than 2-3 min) without sucess (though I had seen it connect after waiting several minutes in the past). I left FM open while doing other things on the IT.

A rebood did allow FM to connect 'immediately' so I know everything is set up correctly on my Win XP pro PC.

So any other ideas?

Same idea, try harder, though. What is your Connectivity setting?

General: search interval 5min;
Idel time: Data call idle time: 5 min and WLAN idle time: unlimited.

I used to have your problem, I fiddled with the connectivity setting and I have NOT encountered the problem for ages. Able to connect upon reboot is NOT a sure-bet. I have XP pro and vista, both connect upon reboot, but the shared folder of the vista would disappear intermittently while the xp pro does not.

OK, only difference was I had General/search interval at 10 minutes (just changed it to 5 now). BTW, my Idle Times data call... is greyed out (can't change) but is set to 5 minutes.

I'm at work right now so will have to check at home later (if it will fail at all right now - fickle eh?)

Thanks for your input. This is a great place!

I was having the problem of not being able to mount shared drives on my XP machine either until I installed wizard mount.

What I did was install Wizard mount.

Wizard Mount garage page
Wizard Mount thread.

Then:

1. Run wizard mount and click quick mount.
2. put the ip address of my windows xp machine with shared drive in for the server. You can get your ip buy typing ipconfig at a command prompt.
3. put Administrator for the username and the password for that account on the xp box in the password box.
4. Put F$ in for resources. (F is a shared drive and the $ sign indicates an administrative share of that drive.)
5. Tick Samba and then click ok.
6. Now in the file manager under remote file systems I have F$@192.168.1.32 which I can double click on to access files on that drive.

It has worked so far. Copying files is pretty slow, but its similar to when I was using winscp to copy things via ssh.
