Did you try maemotex? I see no reason for it not to work.

The error is probably due to the fact that this location is on a FAT partition in the N900. I can't think of a simple solution for this. Maybe --force-all option to dpkg will work?

Is there a direct download link for the .deb? It should be a simple matter of either re-packaging it with a fixed file or a fixed post-install script.

There is a link in the second post of this thread. No source package, but that should not be a big problem for repackaging. (And compiling latex is not fun, anyway).

The actual package is:

Ok I have a repackaged version which doesn't try to chown the example file (which, as Matan correctly says, will fail on a FAT partition).

I've given the modified package a version change, from 0.1.8 to 0.1.8-a2 just to be different.

But I can't attach it here because the size is 5.9MB and the limit here is around 480KB. So for now I've put it on box.net, you can find it with this link: [removed]
Note that you'll have to access it with a browser, it'll translate it to a proper download link with correct name etc.

EDIT: Don't use the link above. Use http://www.box.net/shared/y3jzfy5ono which is the -a3 version. See post a bit below.
