Besides Samba, I have a large NTFS partition mounted in andLinux and can read\write to it. Here are the directions on how to set it up:

http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/AndLinux#How_to_mount_a_Windows_partition

PS: So my settings.txt (not settings_static.txt) file looks like this as I'm mounting my F:\ partition...

mem=256
root=/dev/cobd0
initrd=initrd.gz
kernel=vmlinux
exec0="pulseaudio\pulseaudio.exe"
cobd0=Drives\base.drv
cobd1=Drives\swap.drv
eth0=slirp
eth1=tuntap,"TAP-Colinux",00:11:22:33:44:55
cofs1=F:\

To make the folder use the terminal command

mkdir /mnt/f

Then I edited the /etc/fstab file to add to the bottom

1 /mnt/f cofs defaults 0 0

I then shutdown andLinux (after closing all open Linux applications) by running the batch file located in the andLinux directory

srvstop.bat

then started it up again using

srvstart.bat

Now the partition automatically mounts at each Windows start up.

just curious, I want to learn some about programing would this be a place to start, and is it easy to uninstall if I don't use it?

It's an O.K. place to start and can be uninstalled easily.

Do you have any programming background?

There are many, many, free development Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) that run on Windows to get started programming without requiring all of Linux.

I like Dev-C++ which uses ported Linux development packages to build Windows programs using C and\or C++: http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html

if you have no programming experience, i advise you to start with an easier language, like python.

Maybe the lack of readers is dictated by the de facto development environment. Most N8*0 developers care less about Windows. As a former Windows developer, I remember being pretty excited aboutl coLinux, too. After a while, I found that running a real Linux distribution was even better. When it comes to development tools, there is a lot to be said for stability. The N8*0 development environment is geared for Linux. Why waste time with Windows?

BTW, your first post was well-written and had a lovely sense of nostalgia.

Exactly right.

But I myself am not a developer, just someone who gets excited every time I pick up an internet tablet and who wants to join in the fun.

And I'm using as my full-time computer a laptop provided to me by my office, so I'm a Windows user by fiat.

As I've said before, I suspect there are more ITT users with Windows desktops than you realize. Especially non-N8*0 developers.

So I'm excited about anything that (A) enables me to straddle the Windows/Linux divide successfully (VMWare, Live CD, dual-boot -- other avenues I took that still didn't get me there), and (B) makes it easier for any Windows-based developers to get into ITT development.

And, sure, those Windows-based developers might end up following your footsteps, for precisely the reasons you enumerate.

But I want to put up a sign that points to the entryway!

Roger

PS: Thanks for you kind words. Better to wax nostalgic than bitter, eh? :-)

There are no Windows developers for the tablets because it is almost impossible to use Windows for tablet development. If there was a viable way to develop under Windows then I think there would be more tablet developers.

Even Pluthon, which is supposed to obviate the need for Scratchbox, only runs on Linux. I am pretty sure it could be made to run on Windows.
