There is the chance that it could be a straight-up defective unit (or that the charger is defective). . . .

if you can somehow charge the battery seperately using an external charger or a device that uses the same battery, this may help. you may be able to borrow a good battery from a helpful mobile shop. something similar happened to me when it ran out of juice and shut down. i couldn't get it to power on, and it wouldn't start charging. finally, after a dozen tries and some patience, it started charging. another thing that has worked twice was to take the battery out and warm it up in my hands for a few minutes before replacing it and plugging it in to charge. this seems to get it to give up its last bit of energy to start the charging cycle. but if you have been trying to power it on for a while, the battery might be completely dead.

Take out battery and left it there for at least two hours. This should dry internal battery and remove any "currents" causing problems. Unfortunately this will not fix your problems. Situation will repeat with every turning on/off N800. The only real fix is flashing with newest OS2008. But read more about OS2008 before this step...

ps. You can spend this two hours reading about power on/off enigma bug.

So, can you change the title of the post to "Anger turns to Shame"?

@wasabi: Hey! lay off the new user. You asked questions when you were new as well...

@sinner: What exactly do you mean by "when I installed root"? Are you talking about becomeroot or something else? If it worked correctly it shouldn't be asking for a password...

You may have the no-power-on problem. The latest version of OS2008 is supposed to fix it. I had the same experience you did when I first got mine. IF you have this issue, then there is nothing 'broken' with your device, it's just incompatible with its own firmware.

What worked for me was to, believe it or not, take the battery out of n800, put n800 into fridge for half hour, remove from fridge, insert battery, and power on. Then you can plug in to finish charging, or use it if the battery is decently charged. Then don't power down again until you update to the new OS. Not a big deal since the device lasts for many days in standby mode.
