I guess I might be convinced of ignorance. I'm far less likely to accept the principle that ignorance absolves them of responsibility.

not sure if i ever read in any of the other posts , have they ever explained a reason behind asking this crap for something that does not require a service plan?

I hate Letstalk having dealt with them over the last few years their policies leave much to be desired, Nokia should partner with an E-tailer like Tigerdirect or someone not phone specific for sale of the tablet.

places asking for info to purchase things that dont require it is just ridiculous... hell , i went into lowes and they wanted my phone # and zip to buy a box of screws and a couple of 2x4s. its totally optional , but why in the hell would anyone give them this info????

I bought my N810 from buy.com. No such problems and (at the time) 70USD under Nokia's quoted price (don't know about that rebate you had, though).

Asking for the number on the back of the card isn't uncommon. I've had it happen to me on a semi-regular basis if I am shipping to my office (which is NOT my billing address, hence the added scrutiny).

+1. I've bought a LOT from buy.com over the years (my first purchase from them was the first Rio MP3 player), and they've been almost entirely problem-free. Decent prices, very quick to ship.

They're starting to slip- alienating customers with sometimes-hourly price changes, and by shoving some very dubious "offers" in their faces during checkout. Still, they do come through every time.

Just to be clear, they didn't ask for the 3-digit code on the back (which I'd already entered in the web page anyway), they were asking for the bank's phone number. Presumably that information is available without my having to spell it out in a phone call, and I'm sure there's a way to check to see if the billing address matches the shipping address without having me waiting on hold the entire time.

But those are just quibbles. Asking for my personal background information to just take my money is a whole different class of imposition... and you just know that if people don't draw the line, it'll slowly become more and more common until someday we're giving DNA samples to buy a candy bar- if our health insurance providers give permission.

Yeah, I'm still angry. I'll shut up now.

heres what you do next time... just for a laugh , when they ask for a number , give them this....6 , 21 , 3 , 11 - 25 , 15 , 21 tell em to match those numbers to the corresponding letters in the alphabet and wait to see what they come up with LOL
