Welcome to the open source world! Get coding! All right, stop that right now, we have people much smarter than you to do it!

Here, go play with some of this unfinished software you're not allowed to complain about.

Get a grip. The point is that a centralized, officially supported maemo IdeaStorm will be a lot more effective at getting both community and official traffic and attention and official action from people who can actually act of the community's ideas than some random dude-on-the-internet's IdeaStorm. It'd be a lot like opening up a community bugzilla for filing maemo bugs. :/

Besides, there's no sense in duplicating effort on a community solution when something official is likely coming.

This should really be done on maemo.org imho.

We should see things moving on the maemo.org leadership front pretty soon (see the dev list from today for example) and there's a lot of discussion and organisation going on on the maemo wiki to try to work out what the community (which will be under the maemo.org banner) should try to offer the users. Centralisation really is a key thing here imo.

Just my opinion of course

... and not much progress has been done since the last post.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Maemo_brainstorm

If we want to do this, a good timing is before the Fremantle final release so we know we have something solid in place when a new chapter of Maemo begins and a new generation of users and community members join.

To make it easy, we could go for http://www.ideatorrent.org/ (I personally don't think that developing on top of bugzilla or garage would be any easier/better). User & karma integration would be something secondary, in my opinion. If we can have it, good. If not, still it makes sense to go for it.

In this theme, Oskari Kokko has requested ideas and comments on his plan for IdeaTorrent on adding IdeaTorrent-like features to Midgard for maemo.org. His goal is to have a beta site set up next week.

Current ideas are in the wiki, revisions may be made there, and discussion may be started in the talk page.

There's been much interest expressed in making maemo.org more friendly to end users and giving those same end users a better method of providing product feedback and direction to Nokia. This is a chance to help shape a new tool that is a significant piece in work toward those goals.

Bugzilla is functional, but its interface is a cruel barrier to place before an end user with an idea for product improvement. IdeaTorrent should be the welcoming new location for end user product feedback and ideas, but greater community involvement in its setup should help to avoid by-developers, for-developers pitfalls.

Examples of existing sites using similar and the same software are in the wiki.

EDIT: I've adjusted the text above to reflect the plan to customize Midgard rather than use IdeaTorrent. Debate on the merits of that idea continues on the mailing list.
