The N800 has been a terrific tool once you learn how to run it. Apps are slowly coming to the platform so having it work as a PDA will soon happen. It's an excellent email and web browser and the tool set to enhance the environment is coming but just note it's Linux, not Apple so tweaking the thing is a prerequisite. As an aside, Nokia should not have terminated this as the N800 has advantages the 810 does not. Equip this with WiMax and a faster processor/high res camera combo and the platform would be outstanding.

I might be more than an hour, here is a copy of a note I just sent to TigerDirect:

"Yesterday afternoon I went to your Etobicoke store to purchase a Nokia N800 and a few other items. I did not call first, and the item was out of stock, no problem. This morning I called the Mississauga store and was told there were 5 Nokia N800s in stock, so I took the 1/2 hour or so trip to Britannia and Mavis to purchase a few things. I had intended to purchase the N800, a pair of RAM cards for that unit and a USB hard drive to backup my desktop and laptop computers. When I inquired about the N800 I was told there were none in stock. At this point, TigerDirect is not doing at all well on my customer satisfaction scale. My question is, do you intend to do something to make this right or can I cross TigerDirect off my list of potential suppliers?"

If you're interested, I'll keep you posted.

oh wow. just not having the best of luck with it huh? maybe you should just order it online. you may end up receiving it quicker than the time you find a local legitimate dealer that has it in stock.

always amazed at how difficult it can be to get your hands on something in person these days... the post man ends up bringing most of my toys. Good luck with getting you tablet soon!

I usually order quite a bit online but I figured for a change I would support a local retailer. If this is any indication of the level of service at most brick and mortar stores, it's no wonder they're losing business to online retailers.

I am considering a N810 and I don't share completely the non PDA view of this Internet Tablet. With wireless access to addressbooks on Google/Yahoo!, Calendar access and notepad app, eBook app, etc. it seems to fit the bill. What's more one doesn't have to sync it because the home computer has already done that. I agree with the initial post there as someone who has come from a Palm background the N800/N810 seems to be PDA material - especially when one thinks what PDA stands for! :-)

I just wish the damn thing wasn't so expensive for what it is, especially here in the EU where it's twice the US price :-(

It's not expensive for what it is... it's expensive if all you use it for is a PDA.

It's expensive here in the EU at £299 / €382 when the same product costs half that in the US. Even the new WiMax model I am seeing advertised at half the EU price. If Nokia could bring the price down .....

Here's the reply I received:

"Unfortunately we do not have access to the store inventory system and all complaints about store issues must be directed to the store management."

and my reply:

"Whoa, nice re-direct! Unfortunately, the performance of any store reflects on the view of the entire organization. You might want to re-think that strategy. I suppose I can take TigerDirect off my list of suppliers from now on."

I'm not impressed!
