I only have two saved WiFi connections--work and home--but each is always added at, and kept at, the top of the list when found. I had thought that was due to them being saved, but I supposed it could be coincidence.

Agreed, I went through way too much to get host mode running. An OTG micro-A cable would have been nice...

I am annoyed by the lack of a tab key. and also by having to press Fn befor numbers. i would prefer an extra row of keys.

I know about xmodmap, but it doesn't restore automatically, and I have to research how to write the file each time.
Some kind of official keyboard remapping program would be awesome.

I found the auto-start home applet sdrman wrote is perfect for launching xmodmap again whenever you boot up or when the N810 would forget your keys, though -- it might work well for you, too.(Since I don't think a keyboard remapper is in the cards for Diablo, awesome as that would be. )

My complaints/suggestions are:

1) The keyboard on the N810 is painful after using it long term because how hard you have to press. My friend has two Windows Mobile devices with keyboards and they are a delight to use in comparison.

2) The top row of the keyboard is not as easy to reach because the display doesn't slide out any further and is a little in the way. Just a few more millimeters and it would have been much better.

3) The swap and back buttons on the N810 are completely in the wrong place especially since you have to leave the keyboard slid out if you want to use the menu and navigation keys. Why not put them in a more ergonomic location. Geesh, trying to swap programs endangers me dropping my NIT.

4) The default brightness settings (5) aren't enough especially in dark settings where it's way too dark. I know there are programs that allow you to vary the backlight through all 127 levels but this aimed at Nokia.

5) The GPS SUCKS!! I know its been said already but what a worthless peice of junk. My N560 WM devices GPS locks on pretty darn fast and has an external antenna jack if I need more sensitivity. The NIT just wont ever lock on unless you turn the unit sideways and face South with the LED facing towards the sky. Who does that?

6) The processor is a little weak. Maybe a little more power at the cost of battery or let the user decide performance vs duration through an application setting.

7) Though I'm not a finger interface user I agree that many are, so it should be configurable through control panel. We have a mixture of small icons on top, larger on the side and even larger in the menu's. Why?

8) Why not use a standard mini USB jack instead of the micro USB? It's not that much smaller. I have never seen any hardware device use this until now. Now I have this one cable usable for this one device that I need to keep around.

9) My Nokia 5300 phone has a PC suite that syncs my Outlook phone numbers with my phone. Why doesn't it work with my more advanced N810?

10) Smart2Go is owned by Nokia and is a free GPS software for many Nokia phones and Windows Mobile. Why can't we use it on the NIT's? Sure you have to pay for navigation but it really isn't that bad of a program when I used it on my WM device.

11) I live in fear of removing my SD card from the N810. 90% of the time it becomes unrecognizeable upon reinserting it and needs to be formatted. Why?

I'm sorry to be so negative and I know that I haven't said anything new here. If Nokia would just search this awesome forum they would learn everything they need to know about what was done right and what was done wrong. I'm just so frustrated that I need to go to my friends brothers house to explain to him why the touch screen on his and my N800 are registering clicks in places he's not typing. That OS2008 brought this problem and, no, they haven't fixed it even though it's a confirmed bug. How can this still be an issue?

Package manager is marginal. How about using synaptic. one pkg install is a PITA. It takes forever to update the pkg list. Also, it does not want upgrade pkgs! I have to run apt-get upgrade to get the job done.

all Media players needs .wav, .ogg and .flac support. also needs a manual refresh media button. I like canola but it would not load the whole library. on second thought, after reformatting the external media card, canola no longer reads anything off that card! canola is crap. kagu and media player don't see .wav

email apps are also marginal. Stock mail doesn't play nice with gmail. Modest works intermittently and so does claws. works one and not the next.

ext3 file system support. Why do we have to use vfat? I don't like vfat, don't wanna use vfat.

No, not tz1 (AFAIK, could be a new hire...), but some Nokia folks are around. The poll is somewhere else... There's a thread on it titled "Nokia N810 Survey", iirc.

Yes, every Friday afternoon at three the entire global staff gets together and takes turns reading posts aloud.

C'mon, we get Texrat and Mara. What more could anyone want?

Are you Nokia?
Are you?

I want the next version of the tablet to be available with AND without hardware keyboard (2 different versions). I'm still using n800 because I hate the idea of having a slide-out keyboard. The keyboard on the screen is just fine, I'm not using the tablet to write a novel.
