As for my credentials, they're readily available in scattered posts here, and I don't feel an overwhelming urge to prove who I am or what I know at the moment, sorry. Suffice to say my involvement with the internet tablets goes beyond "contacts" and "NDAs".
pure conjecture here...but is you wife by chance an employee

I think its to obviously boost sales of N810. N800 has same hardware, runs same OS. I don't really care if it's discontinued (note, I have only N800 and only N800) as long as software updates are still available for as long as the N810 gets them.

Nokia UK still stock 770 which has different hardware.

Official position from Nokia:
Isn't that from 12/07? Nokia's US site certainly doesn't have the N800 available today, and they have not had them as far as I know for weeks. The sales department steered me to a N810. Though they did not come right out and say the N800 was discontinued - but she strongly suggested it could be.

Checking Nokia USA site says that N800 is "Out of stock.".

Also when you open the "Find products" tab you can see both N810 and N810 Wimax edition, but no sign of N800. You have to specially search N800 to find it... (In other words, Nokia no longer wants people to find and buy N800... they rather sell you N810.)

So my take (not official) is that N800 is no longer in production. Whatever is left in various warehouses/stocks, that's all what is left.

And maybe I need to add something, because a few people have completely miscontrued my statements on the subject (this is not the first time it's come up here): I am not taking a position either way on the availability or continuance/discontinuance. I'm simply saying that at this point it's still conjecture (there are, after all, other factors that could conceivably lead to the present situation described) and that absolute statements provided by anyone other than someone high up or otherwise delegated with the proper responsibility are not official.

Did anyone define what "discontinued" means in this case?

Few possibilities:
- Discontinued production.
- Discontinued sales.
- Discontinued support/repair.

What N800 may be in is the step 1 on this scale...

For reference, 770 is more or less in step 3. (If you have 770, and it breaks, they will give you N800 if still in warranty. If not in warranty, they will offer you a replacement to N800 with some certain amount of money... Also there are no more software update promises for 770 outside Hacker Editions.)
