Can someone tell me why is it that wi-fi all in one printers can't scan through wi-fi as well or has that been changed with new models?

Consider to have a cheap embedded box with CUPS/LPD/Samba connected via ethernet/USB/LPT (?!) do the dirty work, and have it provide WiFi access too. I'd problably opt for Soekris but its not hard to build or buy, and you have a lot more flexibility.
