Laptop implies a size that relates to the size of your lap. That's part of the distinction, say, between a "laptop", "netbook", or "portfolio clamshell palmtop".
Call me stupid, I see no difference between desktop replacements, laptops, notebooks, subnotebooks, netbooks, and the like. They are all laptops, as far as I am concerned. They have all got clamshell design, well-sized keyboard, x86 architecture, Windows and Office.
