Applications, expandability. (ie little extras like CIFS support, VNC Client/Server, RDesktop(Terminal Services), etc.)

I'm looking forward to your next review, a side by side comparison of a UMPC vs. a KRAY XXVII supercomputer.

(Wanna make a phone call on a KRAY XXVII? Can't do it.)

(I'm just kiddin around)

  1. Size

  3. Connectivity
  4. Battery life
  5. Speed
  6. Application support
  7. user interface
  8. Stability
  9. etc...

Give me more suggestions!
Why not produce a tabular report? That way, you can add devices as they appear and people can contribute as data becomes available. Put devices across the top and features down...

They are like (bananas) and oranges but the fact remains that _nearly_ every review that I have read has mistaken the 770 for something else ... whether it be a UMPC, a Palm or a smartphone.

If anything, a comparison may clarify that they are not the same beasts ... although the flexibility provided by an open platform means that it can be stretched in any direction with the right apps. It may highlight where the limits are to that stretching too.

The 770 is a UMPC, period. UMPC stands for: Ultra Mobile PC. Unfortunately, and we can blame IBM, the acronym "PC" somehow means that the device has to run some form of Windoze. One can argue whether or not a 770 is a "handheld", like a Palm, or whether a Palm is a UMPC. In the end, if it has features of a desktop I think you have to consider it a UMPC.

That said, compare away--I think you will find the 770 to be superior. My personal opinion is that Nokia has made a major error by not developing basic PIM features. Heck, they could have paid some programmers in India to produce a workable set of PIM apps.

I don't get it, two different devices with to different purpose's. I don't see any benefit to comparing the two.

For business, indeed a laptop with Microsoft XP / Vista in dual boot with Linux Suse Entriprise edition.

For private / personal use, a laptop / desktop pc at home, and a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet for at home and to take it everywhere. Everywhere means, that you just take it with you as your wallet, sometimes you use it, sometimes not. Luckily you can just put it in your pocket (what isn't the case with the UMPC); mainly used for internet browsing, reading email and using Google Talk for voice from time to time, just for fun is all the rest like xterm, vnc, gaim, radio, video, music, etc, etc, ...

Conclusion, for me it's totally not necessary that the 770 is equal to my pc ! I prefer an equipment that's not warming up to much, a good battery life, and most importantly, a nice screen and small size !!!

I had that in mind since the beginning, bac522 - I just didn't have enough use experience with the tablet to make the post. Well here it is:

Round 3 posted!

This is how both stack up to devices "more similar" to each other. The Nokia 770 was compared to a Dell Axim x51v and a Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000. The TabletKiosk eo was compared to an OQO 01+ and an HP tablet.

If any of my facts about the other devices are wrong - correct me!
