I can't even log in to the maemo.org website most of the time when using http:// (the login box in the upper right doesn't seem to work, but when I change to https:// I'm magically logged in ... or try going there when not logged in and clicking on an up-thumb in planet maemo...), and I haven't bothered to file any bug reports. I keep hoping someone with more interest in bugzilla will have the same problem. I can't be the only one, can I?

So if I'm that lazy, I'm certainly not going to file a feature request for a bigger avatar.

bug reports are filed at http://bugs.maemo.org and I don't think there are logging problems there. Please do it, you have a point.

There are, actually, (several, too lazy to dig up bug numbers, though—sjgadsby! sjgadsby! sjgadsby!) pick whichever matches your experience and add your comments there.

[rant/troll warning]

Come on, people. We went from 60x60 to 50x50. you wouldn't be able to decipher a full 800x480 screen of text at 60x60 either. how about 70x70 avatars? or even 80x80? would you be happy then? granted, it's a small number of pixels with which to express your identity, but nobody complained before the layout change.

so popular these days to criticize the new layout... imo, it's different, not worse. quit whining.

EDIT: i guess that's a bit of an overreaction... possibly in the wrong thread... i just wanted to get that off my chest.

You know what it is? Reporting bugs into a formal bug system feels like a police interrogation. You have to report every detail you can think of, you get hassled if you didn't report something properly, and most of the time the problem doesn't get addressed to your satisfaction. It is a bit of a mystery why bug reporting is so much trouble when the system is supposedly supposed to be for volunteers to help developers. You would probably want to help make the experience as pleasant as possible for the volunteers, no?

So, I'll report big, terrible bugs if someone hasn't already done it. But if I can work around the problem (and when I log in to maemo.org, I can work around it by logging in and then manually changing the "http://" to "https://") I'm not going to drag my lazy body over that high threshold. If nobody else is reporting it, it is either something I'm doing wrong or something that is limited to a small subset of people.

And feature requests are the same. Sure, I miss the bigger avatars. But do I miss it enough to make a bug report and then receive endless chatter in my inbox from people arguing about whether this is a valid bug, what status the bug should be set to, or whether the bug should be marked "wontfix" or left as "super-low priority"?

No.
