gPodder does support downloading both video and audio content (and it also supports downloading from YouTube feeds, if you're into that..). For playback, it's suggested that you use Panucci for audio and MPlayer for video, there's nothing that can beat MPlayer for video playback on the N8x0 in my opinion And if you have any problems with gPodder, we're here to help. And please report problems that you find.

I left the 'Apple world' a couple of years ago and am not looking back.

The debian install is usefull. Dillo through that is one of my most used apps, for simple browsing of wml or a quick search or something. Cellufun runs fast, and clicks are more responsive than in MicroB.
