FYI: Comcast blocks based on the MAC address of the port their modem connected to. If you add a router, clone the original MAC.

I'm not following you. I've used Comcast for about eight years now, and I've changed routers a few times, connected computers straight to the modem for testing, and dropped an Ooma hub in between my modem and my router. I've never had to clone a MAC address or notify Comcast of any changes.

I live in Fresno CA and they block by MAC addresses here but didn't when I first subscribed 5 years ago. My router only works if I clone to the MAC address of the Ethernet port I registered with. Aparently Comcasts practices differ depending on where you live.

I have comcast and my iMac, Ubuntu 9.04 and XP machines never seem to have this problem. I flashed the device and reinstalled all the apps from backup and it connects now. But now canola fails to start.

I guess I will keep the device even if all I use it for is to SSH into work.

You probably have extras-devel repository enabled. A recent update to a Canola2 dependency breaks Canola. See this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=299661.
