But a good front-end to MPlayer is far superior compared to VLC.

Nimbuzz never got ported - and I'm personally not a fan of the web version via Maemo's browser. But lately, I've been using Nimbuzz via the iPhone and I know it would be better on Maemo 5 if done well.
Any particular reason you prefer Nimbuzz over Fring or Pidgin or even Gizmo for that matter?

Anyone know if the Hava player will work with Meamo 5?

Other than that, my wish list would be for a full port of Gnome Games, or at least add Blackjack, to the repository.

I'm more thinking along "Apps I don't want to see on the N900" among them... anything that would go to the cloud, sync with the cloud or send any data to the cloud for storage.

In other words I want software to obey me not the cloud or web2.0 and I prefer my data not clouded

I do hope it will be possible to rip out any such software and replace it with local alternatives. If I want syncing I'll setup my own syncml server and sync that

It's the cool, new, mobile computer OS from Nokla, hadn't you heard?

My experiences with MPlayer on the Maemo platform is much less superior to VLC on the desktop. I don't ever recall having to resample for the desktop. Had to do so on the NITs.

It's all about taste. And MPlayer, while I used to be a fan with it on my Mac very early on, VLC has replaced it in my usage.

Nimbuzz supports Skype voice and its interface is quite a bit more polished. I don't particularly like interface for Fring, but it's usable.

Pidgin stopped getting updated on Maemo 4 and I had connectivity issues to certain protocols and I dislike lengthy workarounds that may/may not work. And Gizmo... doesn't support Skype.

Maybe you're buying the wrong device since it's pretty much the entire point of the tablet to begin with, at least for consumers.

Well, you can also use the built-in chat program with the upcoming protocol additions by Collabora to have pretty much everything Nimbuzz gives you along with the extra integration.
