Between starting simple and manual but operative soon or having a great dynamic and automatic system in 2012, I know which option I prefer...

Out-of-the-box, Midgard supports multiple location sources: user-entered, Plazes, Dopplr, Fireeagle and so forth. We could also do browser location quite easily.

I wrote a plan how to do location-sharing services on maemo.org way back in 2007, but the possibilities have moved forward quite a lot since. I'll check if that can be dug up from mothballs and modernized. But anyway, keep the ideas rolling in...

I already suggested it somewhere in TMO but here is again:

- Location field in the profile (supporting different options, in order to deal with privacy)
- Devices field in the profile (770,n810,..)
- Type of member field (developer, power user, user)

Then this information can create a nice map with different colors for each type of member, something like these ones:
