True there is still some leftovers even with a total reflash. If not where the heck would the phone store the security code in to? And also notice this. Whenever you reflash the access point reverts back to the very first configured access point. And also system settings like setting it up to GSM, 3G or dual mode won't restore to default upon reflash.

And at least I know mtd2 has not been cleared in the reflash-operations. It is easy to check, as there is old Kernel-OOPSes:
more /dev/mtd2ro
