@davedickson: oh, definitely go for it dude
Even if it only runs at a fraction of the real speed on the N900, the codes will live on to take advantage of future hardware upgrades!

the n900 has a much more powerful Cpu then the psp (it's only 333MHz, and that's overclocked)

Could the extra power in the n900 cpu make up for it's weaker gpu?

Almost certainly not.

Did think about this a solution when I first started looking at the specs of each of the devices. Is there absolutely no way this will work, or could emu help out with this??? i.e the emu utilising the cpu and tricking it into thinking its a GPU?? or are the processes completely uncompatible?

Well I will certainly have a good go and report back, and as you rightly say if the next device has higher specs then it maybe possible.... anyone know anything about the next in the "N" series or is it a closely guarded secret??

A GPU is a different beast than a CPU, especially an ARM CPU. That's why we use GPUs for GP.

A PSP emulator running inside an x86/Windows emulator on a mobile phone. ROFL Get it to work, even at 0.1 fps, so we can marvel at such a Frankenstein creation.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

LOL yeah well it does sound a bit far fetched but I was thinking out loud, about any solution, even remotely possible!!

I don't think that it is too much a a stretch to use the emu to spread the load for the lack of GPU power? Surely?? Ok might be nightmare trying to write the emu be there must be a way to make this work, or am I completely wrong?

Actually, the current discussion on IRC is about how gfx are generally memory bandwidth-limited on the N900. I suspect you wouldn't make much headway trying to crunch through megapixels on the CPU as well as running game code. Don't know if the DSP can do anything useful, but in any case it would be a very sophisticated, involved piece of software.

To be honest I am pretty limited till I actually get my hands on the device and see what it can do, then work from there. So looks like nothing more on this till christmas

we had an almost usable PS1 emulator running on the zaurus which was about as powerful as the 770! the n900 should be more than enough to make it work.

check out the website of zodttd (www.zodttd.com) who did the port from the original psx4all emu to handheld/arm device... you can even download and build yourself!
