Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying... the choice was a weird one. Your hope to have swiping as a feature is perfectly valid. I just don't see how they think swiping should delete data like that.

At the moment you hold down to delete, and you get a confirmation box asking to delete correct?

In Sms's, mms, emails, like with the iphone and palm pre, you swipe to the left or right, and there is a confirmation box on the message heading itself . To confirm you tap 'delete'.

This would be only for items where there are lists, even apps you swipe, confirm, it uninstalls Or in the songs list, or with bookmarks.

Its just simplifies it a lot.

Here is what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB8uj48FQME

It is must faster than holding down, and then waiting for a dialogue box, then confirm 'yes'. Other platforms are adopting this am surprised it wasnt implemented.

Its much easier and very intuitive, both the pre and iphone do it and its becoming sort of a standard...
Gee why don't we fix the basics...like allowing me to select more then 1 e-mail at a time.

what's wrong with the email delete button at the bottom of the page?

Nothing, unless you are a fan of simpler hand/finger motions are part of your UX framework.

Its a preference more than anything. But to keep as close as possible to some of the UI aims for Maemo 5, the idea of using a gesture follows better to it than a button at the top/bottom/sides of the screen. Because then you leave such areas for more advanced controls (which puts all kinds of pressures on developers to work with UI folks to make sure things stay simple/usable).

Exactly...there needs to be new refined ways of doing things that reduce the number of steps and add simplicity.

Given how fluid and user friendly Maemo 5 is, its pretty surprising that the end user has to long press (with a delay) to delete, or click on the top area, bring up menu, click delete, select message to delete, then click delete.

As opposed to swipe, click delete and move on to more important stuff.

Yeah, that's what I'd assume it would do also, seems kinda natural really..

What trash? I assume you're not talking about the Maps app

Stupid me. I was forgetting that we aren't talking about the file-manager ...

Seriously, I like blue, you like red. Do not try to argue away somebody's else preferences. If somebody requests swiping as a feature, I totally agree it should be added as an option.

If you ask me if swiping is better, more intuitive, cooler, Iphone, whatever, I can tell you: I like blue.
so same gesture that opens history @ web browser should be used to delete something in other system app?
