My vote too. IDLE is part of the expected functionality. making this choice for end users is both misguided and not in the spirit of the device IMHO.

what settings are you guys using for gmail on the N900 I can't seem to get my Imap to work :-(. Please could someone help me

Go to gmail from the web browser, enable imap in the settings there first. Then configure gmail for the phone using the wizard.

Not really, since IDLE also requires you to poll the server every 30 minutes.

I R confused.....

Set up one imap account - and it's fine by me that it checks every 2 hours, my yahoo account goes through nokia messaging and pops in the second i receive it (Almost quicker rthen on the web page)

So i'm assuming that it is using the IDLE

Being cynical, Nokia dont want IMAP IDLE cause they want you to use Nokia Messaging, which does the same thing if you are currently using a webmail service like gmail or yahoomail.
