I don't have the device so I don't know which solution works for which device, but it looks like the solution should be written in http://wiki.maemo.org/Application_menu if the info there is outdated.

Can you / someone else please add the info so others will surely find it?

I too found it annoying that it opens up to bookmarks (since that window remains open). Just put this into a file called something like web.desktop in /usr/share/applications/hildon and then add a shortcut to "Web":

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=0.1
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Name=Browser
Exec=/usr/bin/dbus-send --session --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.osso_browser /com/nokia/osso_browser com.nokia.osso_browser.open_new_window string:www.google.com
Icon=general_web
X-Window-Icon=
X-HildonDesk-ShowInToolbar=false
X-Osso-Type=application/x-executable
Make sure that all that stuff after "Exec=" stays on one line. Two caveats: you may need a reboot before it shows up in the list of apps, and I find that I have to press the button twice to get it to work the very first time.

You can of course replace www.google.com with another URL or eg "about:blank".

e: feel free to edit the article to better shape, it is now done pretty quickly just that new people opening the link will have all the information needed even though it isn't so easily available.

Ps. Sorry if i've posted in the wrong section but I wasn't sure where to post

To move icons around on the application menu, tap and hold on an icon; the background will darken, the icon will be highlighted, and the following instruction will appear at the top of the screen: "Select an application then tap on a new position." When you have finished moving around the icons, tap "done" at the top of the screen.
