As long as it's not DRM'd most movies play nicely on the N900.
You can transfer them in USB mass storage mode.
But 720p or higher resolution is not supported.
You can legally get some movies here: http://www.youtube.com/movies

thanks, but do you have anything for windows which will convert to 800X480
I hate having black lines on the side, let alone on top and bottom

I rip DVDs using <plug>tablet-encode</plug>; there's a basic GUI but the command line usage is quite simple.

I don't get how to use tablet-encode on Windows. Searched all around and didn't find any instructions, and there's only tar balls on the download section.
