before that, i had some "happy" experiences having multiple browsers think it was default, and different programs would open different browsers depending on the time of day, year, tide and celestial alignments.

and even now, one ever so often bump into software that have IE hardcoded as default browser for any urls...

Are the Standard apps OPTIFIED ?

If not, having a way to move them to OPT might at least help the ROOTFS capacity issue.

But to get to jcompagner's point, even before the EU decision, MS could and did patch/upgrade IE separately from the OS despite the fact that it is intimately tied to the OS.

Updates of applications, Nokia's as well as from Extras etc., should come through the application manager. Period.

Firmware updates (as in reflashing) should _only_ be for things that can't be done via application manager [apt-get update; apt-get upgrade], i.e. filesystem changes, boot changes, gsm phone related changes, stuff like that.

If not, then you lose the power of APT, and you end up in everyone waiting ages for a totally unnecessary reflashes (could have been done with application manager), or the horror mix of the ssu method for Diablo.
