Martin's MediaBox (http://maemo.org/packages/view/mediabox/) does support navigating by folder I think, but it's not yet in the Extras repository. He's probably busy with FM radio, but feel free to kindly ask him to promote the mediabox package to Extras-Testing (contact info in the link above).

Also, I can imagine how difficult it would be to retag a ton of mp3's if you didn't originally tag them yourself... but that would mean you downloaded them or got them from a friend who simply didn't tag them properly. So, it's not Nokia's fault your music collection isn't as well kept as they assumed a typical consumer's would be.
