The 800 screen does not have the same graininess as the 770. I don't think this is a problem with the 770's display at all - its the touchscreen overlay. The 800's screen is also much brighter. The whites are actually.. white. There is no comparison (I have the two on my desk side by side here).

On the other hand, while the screen is much improved, the buttons are complete crap. Whoever designed the buttons for the n800 should be fired. I mean that quite seriously. They are that bad.
I will say I preferred my 770 for reading (accursed WSOD).
And I, too, have the dimming effect at the right hand side of my n800 screen - good to know it isn't just mine.
