no search in email app,
no search in calendar
no universal search feature

Microb was said to be a desktop browser in your pocket but I can't remove the ovi plugin(don't need it) nor can I change the google search url bar into a regular url bar. I rarely use the browser because of this and will never use the OVI store to buy apps until this is changed.(with no replacement tie ins to ovi at all !! )

file manager not sure if it's a bug or not but when viewing files or folders over 1Gb it loses track of the file size.

camera could be better, I also don't like that it stores pics taken in camera folder instead of the image folder. Something like Images/camera would be better. I have no obvious way to change it.

battery cap smaller then the battery cap in the e71 despite the n900 being a bigger phone, and flagship phone.

Email app needs a better ui and format, the rest of the bad things have been said.

Clock view on phone lock, something like the clock app home screen with maybe a swipe to unlock feature instead of the basic swipe to unlock feature(can use phone to check time quickly) the e71 has one.(no swipe though)

fm transmitter with no radio app, I took it in stride when they announced not making a app(very close to launch) but they had already announced the fm transmitter as a feature and I think most other (nokia)phones come with a radio app. The community radio app didn't work well for me.

Tons of background processes running in the background that don't contribute to my user experience, would like to turn those off. After all it was claimed to be a mobile PC.

Future updates will probably include more of these crap processes that don't help my user experience with the trade off of fixed or function enabling hardware updates.

Security to protect my user contacts and etc seem none existant, I wonder what this phone is doing and sending back to the mother ship.(I have only loaded 1 contact as a test until I see some assurances my info isn't being data-mined)

The rest of my gripes are features that were announced but not ready at launch.

edit:

music player playlist, it's not intuitive at all

Battery.

If you ever wrote animation you'll know the penalty for smoothness. Most of the times, especially with acceleration and large data (like dragging images and windows), CPU usage might well quadruple for double the frame rate.

If it was 60 fps instead of 15, that would most likely ceil the CPU and simply moving about the device would double or triple consumption.

It's no longer a tablet if fiddling with it was a major drainage. With phones it's not so bad, because people pull them to sms or call, but I fiddle with it endlessly, my battery would drop like a brick.

Oh, and, I very much doubt that the device could output uber-smooth anyway, seeing as this isn't a multicore and the screen isn't a 1 ms wonder.

As a last note, animation is tweakable, should you wish to waste resources.

ndi, i wish that menu smoothnes animation was as smooth as its on iphone or lately seen android/windows phone ui showcase videos.

and btw. I know some of those things you said but ultimately as consumer it's not my problem to think about technical difficulties behind things that i demand. That would be waste of my time.

.edit
If it hits battery consumption badly(you tested?) then i would demand better battery. I'am consumer and because of my demand things evolve and get better to all. Also to peopled who settle for less.

I don't think I have a gripe. Am I missing something? Should there have been one pre-installed or do I have to downloaad it from extras?

Seriously, there are a few features I'd like to see (some of which are in development). But I honestly don't have any problem big enough to call a 'gripe'. Maybe I'm just too dumb to have found one yet?

I think the contact application is verry crappy, we can't add group, we can't apply some special stuff to contact ( like special ringtone for example ) Worst, if we receive an sms with an unknow number, we can't add it to a contact, or create a new contact with this number ( or if, i've missed something )

Ovi map is clearly a piece of ****.

I hate too the lack in the playlist support, ( we can do them, but how to add a folder in a playlist ? we're oblige to search all tracks in all our library ... )

Possibility to manage menus.

And in the AppMgr I think to have the name of the catalog from which the app will be downloaded will be pratical.

Correct me if i've wrong on some point

But for sure, i love this device, and i won't change for anything

OVI MAPS need I say more...................
No SAMBA support.. mobile computer??
File indexing for multimedia.
And a few more but overall im nearly pleased with it.
Now don't get me started on fixing said issues with the "Mythical Firmware Update". I stopped believing Nokias timescales a long time back.

Separating complaining from answers, new post.

I'll skip the common stuff, like email searching and video call.

Things I hate:

40%
* Maps suck. No saving points, no searching points, little to no usability offline. I'm still using my handheld PNA. That costs 1/10. Aw well.

30%
* "calling" screen is wasted. We have nice photos of loved ones. Accept better photos. Accept videos or animations. And make the portraits larger, dammit, what's with the 40 pixel images? And why can't I have a loved one waving while it's ringing? GIF is like 40 years old. Animated PNGs. AVI. Whatever.

70%
* Graphics. Dude, the swipe to unlock "ball" is squareish. It looks like it's been drawn by upsizing a small ball with no interpolation. Style on the outside, little style on the inside. Hold an iPhone sometimes. I hate the damned thing, but you can't help but admire the neatness of it all. Round buttons, nice controls, glass finish, embossed text. Say what you will, the N900 UI looks like it's free. I am aware of theme ability, but out of the box it's average. Replace the cheap gradient with a glass gradient.

It's not like it takes more resources to animate a better icon. It's Photoshop versus Paint.

20%
* Menu sucks. The "more" business is OK in the beginning, but now I have most stuff I want on desktop, I never use the first screen unless I use settings. Really. In an application, click the icon for expose, then again for menu, then again for more. Bah. And folders, people. Grouping. Ordering. Every update my stuff moves around like crazy. I never know where they are.

10%
* No aligning to grid on desktop. It looks childish. No ability to customize icons. I would like to see a red outline on an icon for a change, better visibility. I could have red for family contacts and green for work on desktop. Or a dot. or an overlay, something.

30%
* No compass. Mapping is very hard to look at when north is unknown. WTH, people, you know where I am and what time it is. Just let me point the device at the sun and that should tell me where north is. Enough to tell me that the street i want is to the right. Intersection-level north is not hard to achieve. I played with IPhone compass today. Shaken enough, I got the darned thing to miss by 45 degrees. It's still usable in an intersection.

Err, no. The device is functioning exactly as I expected it to, and in most respects better. And that's before the much-vaunted firmware update.

As I say, there's a few tiny things I'd like to see, but I knew they weren't there when I ordered it. And I can enjoy following their progress in development here.

Maybe I'm just easily pleased. A 'glass-half-full' sort of person.
