It basically launches mplayer for you without you going into xterminal.
I didn't write anything about SiB. The OP asked for the best GUI interface to mplayer. Althogh th KB interface is not a GUI, I still prefer it.

Ahh. I see. So you prefer not having a gui for it.

But it takes WAY too long typing and selecting videos especially if you have many videos and in different folders which I do. Also, SiB shows you straight up how much you have watched each video which is extremely handy if you stop and want to resume later on.

Thanks. I checked application manager, but I do not see SiB, extras-testing, or extras-devel listed anywhere. I do see Mplayer listed here though. What am I doing wrong?

Also, under application manager's update, I see there is a new version of Maemo. Do I need to update it?

Edit:
I found this which seems to shed some light for this noobie. Is Mplayer and SiB end-user ready or is it still in the testing/development phase? I'm a bit weary that I'll brick my N900 within the first few days of ownership. How stable then is Mplayer and SiB? Will updating the Maemo version (firmware I'm assuming), will this conflict with the Mplayer and SiB functionality in any way?

Anything in extras-devel or testing may brick your phone. Only use them if you know exactly what you're doing.

Kmplayer is already in extras, so stick to that for now.

mplayer is very stable and is optified also. (doesn't eat up your rootfs)
Also SiB is VERY stable. Many have been using it since day one.
Also, updating to 1.1 did not affect the functionality of sib or mplayer.

If you cannot see SiB from HAM, do the following.

1. Install application called rootsh
2. go to xterminal and type root
3. Run the following commands:

apt-get update
apt-get install sib

4. Above commands will allow you to install sib. =)

btw, you will need mplayer installed for SiB to be of any use.

As it's been a while since I've taken a CS class, how do I get into the memory card folder using the xterminal? I have installed Mplayer and would like to test it using xterminal prior to installing SiB.

MicroSD card is mounted as /media/mmc1/
MyDocs (internal 32GB) is /home/user/MyDocs/

or simply type:

mplayer /home/user/MyDocs/video.avi (where you will need to specify the location/name of the video)

Are there other GUI alternatives with better stop / pause / resume functions?
