I experience the same problem too.

I figure out this might be related to the language / locale you're using. I've been using Chinese (Hong Kong) (zhhk) and Ovi Maps takes forever to load. Once I switch my Device Language back to English (US) (en-US), I'm able to launch Ovi Maps again.

I am pretty sure that I could launch Ovi Maps in the 42.1 firmware with the Chinese locale. I'm not sure if this is a new bug for the PR1.1 firmware.

OK, so apparently I had to not only reflash my firmware but the eMMC as well. Apparently a configuration got screwed resulting in me not being able to run "maps" (perhaps this maybe due to the language local, like amandalam mentioned, although i never had a problem before nor did i ever change locales or files for ovi maps, strange)
Anyway i reflashed the eMMC (which puts the device back to "out of box state" with all your settings and configurations removed. I thought just flashing the firmware did this but it doesn't. Flashing the firmware will update the software but allow for your certain app configurations/contacts to be saved and never really completely wiped) and all is good.

I have noticed tho that now when i look in /Home/user/MyDocs/cities/diskcache, there is no longer a Client Index folder, Premium folder and the a file named qf is not there. But this maybe due to the fact that eMMC images do not contain preloaded maps, but the application will work fine and that i would manually have to add the maps i would need.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...ng_your_device
"Flashing the eMMC in the N900

Flasing the eMMC resets the MyDocs folder contents to factory settings. N900 users don't need to reflash the eMMC of their device. If you are reading this it's probably because you got a pre-production device e.g. in the Maemo Summit. If you have a sales unit and you have problems with your eMMC you should contact Nokia Care.

Also note that any backups created in your MyDocs area will need to be copied off the device to be safe across an eMMC flash as the MyDocs area and other partitions on /dev/mmcblk0 will be erased.

Note that the eMMC images available do not contain pre-loaded maps. If you reflash your eMMC you will lose them (the Maps application will work as usual but you will need to download the maps needed). "

Anyway, just a little FYI on the situation.

I'm very agree with you.

I have the same Problem, and once I switch my N900 language from 'zh-CN' to 'en-US', the Ovi Maps runs!

I looked into my setting, there is no zhhk option. How did you do it?
TIA,

I think the problem is not related to anything in the /home/user/MyDocs/cities directory... I tried to rename the entire cities directory and Ovi Maps still keep loading forever...

I seem to be missing the Satellite mode's textures on PR1.1.
