If you're running Linux already you could install the SDK and have a read through Jebba's package building howto. After that if you still want to port you can combine what you've learnt with the info in rambo's link to work your way up to bigger challenges.

So do you think I should try the SDK or MADDE? Perhaps I should just install both and play around a bit.
