I have two N900 and have the same problem on both! Can`t switch from 3G to GSM or DUAL mode. Also can`t change CALL FORWARDING. Tryed to reflash with flasher3.5 and also flashed in nokia care center but no luck.
I also noticed thad entering SETTINGS -> PHONE took long time. Aprox 15-20sec.

All the things you quoted depends on the settings that your mobile provider has saved on your SIM and your personal settings with your mobile provider.

The call forwarding depends on some services your provider offers to you, could be somewhat telling you who has called you while you were not avaiable.

The long time is because your phone is searching for your mobile provider settings over the network.

Even the fact that you can't use GSM could depend on your mobile provider.

Contact your provider and modify your settings.
I've managed to modify my call forwarding settings changing some services from my provider.

Sounds really intresting....I have the same symptoms, settings -> phone takes pretty long mostly.

Could this be a hardware fault since re-flashing doesn't help....

Usually that happens if you try to change 3G/GSM/DUAL while you are connected to network. Try disconnect first and change settings and reconnect to network.

That is not hardware fault at all, I've already explained that in my previous post.

The phone has to retrieve your provider settings from the air, so it takes relatively long.
That's also explain why reflash is useless... It is absolutely normal.

Did you read my posts at all? As I mentioned my SIM works fine in 2G mode with my N95 and E72.

So my N900 has atleast a software fault and probably a hardware one since it behaved like this from the box...

I was answering to you saying that phone settings take long time to load for hardware reason, and that is wrong.

The fact that your SIM works well in 2G with an N95 and an E72 means very little, because your provider can retrieve your phone model and adjust your personal settings according to how your dataplan or mobile plan works.

Please contact your mobile provider and directly ask it this question, now I'm curious too. By the way, the fact that a call-center guy says that it's not provider's fault doesn't mean that is not provider's fault... So this could be an endless problem.

And yes, I always read all the thread before posting and giving suggestions.

I was just finding common symptons since the last N900 never took this long to load the phone settings.

But here are the facts so far:

- My SIM works in 2G mode with N95 and E72.
- My operator Elisa Finland has no such functionality that they could block 2G mode based on the phone model or SIM.
- My SIM worked with the previous N900 in 2G mode fine (4 weeks ago)
- Tested this current N900 with another SIM from a different operator (Telia Sonera Finland) and still the 2G mode is not working.

So I think it's pretty safe to say that the problem is in this phone, right?

I'm still thinking that since this on not a phone mean't for the Finnish market (since the FM- transmitter was disabled) there could also be a similar thing with the 2G- mode...

You've just convinced me.

Well, I've heard about someone who received a "limited" N900 (if I'm not wrong, a serbian guy received an N900 without GPS functionality) but I can't understand why sending a blocked N900, and why in FInland (although to send a blocked N900 even in Serbia is unjustifiable, if I pay for a phone I want THAT phone).

Maybe Nokia has the answers, maybe not.
Before flashing (because you will have to flash ) ask it. Then you should flash, and that will make you sure it is/isn't an hardware problem.

Nokia's tech support didn't make me any wiser regarding this problem, so it's flashing time...

Let's just hope it fixes this because I don't feel like waiting another 3-4 weeks for a third replacement.
