Yes, my SpeedTouch 780 does this, and a simple layer-7 packet filter can accomplish such as well (Linux + Netfilter + l7-filter).

One can also prioritize ACKs which is useful on asymmetric lines such as ADSL or cable. (*BSD + PF, Linux + CBQ, throttled for FreeBSD & MacOS X).

If your ISP provides a shitty DNS server I'd opt for a different ISP or opt for an other DNS server in your country. Whenever I can I use the DNS of my DSL ISP because its reliable.

That would be nice, at least all Linux routers honour the TOS field in the IP header by default but Cisco routers don't (which are the overwhelming majority ).

Be aware that OpenDNS do intercept all your Google traffic in the same way as a MITM attack so if you have something important in google accounts it is your call to trust OpenDNS. DNS resolution is faster tho but I gave up cause the MITM issue.

Reading that thread and the blog on opendns and doing some testing for myself it seems to be that the redirection is actually benign.. better, in fact, for those on dell/sony/gateway/emachines Windows computers at least.

@TA-t3: Not exactly benign. Basically, they get paid for the ads they put up on that search page, so they really don't have an incentive to fix it any other way. Also, as far as I can find there is no way to completely disable their "search page." Yes I looked and unchecked all the boxes that should have disabled it, and no it didn't go away. So I went back to running my own DNS server. Nothing beats the ping times of localhost, anyways.
