actualy... the problem is that i WANT it to resume.. but not at the same loud volume... it would be much better if it would start from low volume and then rise to the volume set before the call.

Ah I see. You could request it from the application developer instead. It will probably be quicker than asking Nokia.

it would be nice if it was built into the media player, but we will have to wait for that.

The application is called 'Headphone daemon'.

i am currently using headphoneD but all that does is pause wmusic playback when the headphones are pulled out... nothing about pre/post call situations.

No, didn't experience this (yet), and I've already taken some calls... Were there any similar factors when it happened? Like, were you using the phone (not listening to music off course but just *any* app) or was it just sitting in your pocket? Dunno about solving your problem but maybe it helps you resolving whatever's causing it?
