It could be that some poorly written applet is consuming too much memory/cpu cycles. Try disabling all applets, and then enabling one by one, to find out if maybe they are the problem. One was in my case.

I have flashed my tablets a bunch of times. I think that a typical problem of newbies is that they are afraid of flashing, then theirr tablets get screwed up in some way and they tolerate it, assuming that's the way things are, when it's actually intolerable and a flash is needed.
In the case of the N900 I think flashing is particularly important -- and now there are two kinds of flashes, and both are important. Any normal user has installed programs from the dev and testing repositories, and some things done have caused subtle problems only cured by flashing.
In the case of the N800 and N810, I don't find flashing necessary as often as I used to. I think the Diablo environment eventually became pretty stable so it's usually not necessary.

I don't use that many applets. HomeDiskFree, OMWeather, Personal Launcher and Seqretary, but I have never heard of any complaints with any of them. I'll turn all four off and try a full reboot, and probably leave Seqretary and OMweater off for a bit, just to test.
Thanks,
