On the off chance that the thief didn't bother reflashing it, did you have any VoIP/IM accounts enabled? You may be able to track it down that way (even better if you had location status enabled in availability).

Probably a thief may not think that he should/need not insert a SIM , chances are a new SIM may be inserted and the phone can be traced using the new SIM's IMSI or if its not changed then using an app that can enable GPS and transmit coordinates.

but yes I agree, in general if the SIM is not changed an IMEI block wont be much help.

IMEI number should ID it with the GSM carriers. What about filing a police report and trying to see if the cyber crime guys can track it down with the carriers?

Might be able to get the local crime reporter for your newspaper who would like to do a tech story about how the phone was recovered with GPS.

I think that the dollar value to trace this phone probably puts it pretty low on the priority list of police cases. It has been a week since I filed and I have not had any feed back from the police. I have pretty much written it off.

Sad that a $600 theft is a joke nowadays. What were the circumstances of the theft?

Someone broke into my locker at the gym. I don't usually bring anything of value but I was a bit distracted that day with car problems and had my phone in my pocket. Pretty much just bad luck.

There's a french saying that goes "Un malheur ne vient jamais seul.

Pretty much means "Misfortune never comes alone".

Im sorry for your problems mate. Hopefully it'll be all good from now on!

lol well I have a great idea. MUST READ

my friend recently installed this onto his girlfriends iphone (also versions for S60, andriod etc etc etc) because he wants evidence that shes cheating. lol she is cheating by the way but this is extreme
Its called - FLEXISPY PRO-X
www.flexispy.com

it cost him $400. but this is what it does.

*installs a silent app which doesn’t show up app in the app manager. To bring it back up you gotta type a command
*bugs the phone through the IMEI not the sim card.
*upload information about the phones location with GPS or triangulation which can be activated and deactivated with a silent SMS to the website
*will sms my friend when a sim card is inserted/changed with the new number
*logs all sms and voice calls on their website with the account you have.
*you can sms a silent command to turn on the mic so when you call the phone it wont ring or do anything but you hear what happens in the background
*my friend gets a sms when his gf is on the phone and all he has to do Is call her phone and listen in on the convo.
*with a sms commands you can make the phone pretty much do what you want with any sim card

The list goes on and on and on……………………

but interested in these three.

*upload information about the phones location with GPS or triangulation lol sounds cool
*sms when a sim card is inserted/changed with the number
*you can sms a silent command to turn on the mic so when you call the phone it wont ring or do anything but you hear what happens in the background

does anyone think this could be possible as an app???? a freeware opensource app?????
The iphone has these services.MobileMe, iLocalis, Mobile spy 3.0, iHound, MyFoundCast, Navizon app and Findmyi. we got nothing
