I am cyclist as well, this will be totally sweet if it works!

It's cool because the map colors are more simple and it's easier to see the streets and stuff. And it marks streets with bike lanes in green which is helpful when venturing into areas where you haven't biked before. Unfortunately the bigger aspect of the tool which is directions on bicycling won't be available on Mapper, unless someone can find a way to export google directions and import them in Mapper. Supposedly the directions account for bike lanes, large unfriendly streets, and even hills so that you're not going up a giant hill when there could be a better route.

Can this work on N900 too or only for N810 ?

I finally got around to testing this bicycling map on my N810 with Maemo Mapper and indeed it does work. The work is all done in Manage Repositories. Start with the new button, I was offered both legacy and sqlite3 formats and chose legacy. Then enter the URL, map name and the location of the data base. I live in Fresno and some bike routes were available.

There is a version of Maemo Mapper for the N900 that I've heard about but not used as I'm an N810 user. I'd think the URL would work there as well. It'll just be a matter of a different user interface for what I summize is basically the same application otherwise.

What's difference between the newer format and legacy, because I did the default and it works fine on my n810.

P.S. Fragos I like your guide but I can't seem to get the importing of directions to work for Mapper. Any tips?

The legacy DB format may not be a standard but always worked for me. The newer DB format is sqlite3 which is very popular, particularly for personal applications with smaller DBs.

I usually use http://www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin/gpx.cgi on my desktop which yields a GPX file of my route. I then transfer that file to the folder on my N810 where my maps are stored. The built in function calls the same web site. All you need to enter are the street address, city and state or zip code in the US. You use these routes through Maemo Mappers menu system following Route then Open. You'll get a File Manager display of the folder with your GPX and DB files. Select the GPX file you want and it comes up as a green line on your map.
