thats funny, your the first to bring up a good point about sad battery life.
Nokia reckons you get 6.3 hours talk and 11 days standby.
but I find if I use my device intensely I get about 5 hrs most days I get through 14 - 16 hours with light to moderate use.
All in all I think the problem is the user, when they get the phone they push it, install stuff and test out skype and flash video and install more stuff and watch videos and test there media servers and wright scripts in terminal and.... and then the battery dies, but if you were board with it the day you got it you wouldn't wast any battery life you may even get 2 days standby.
Hell if you just used it like a phone and terned off every function the device has you may get the advertised 11.5 days of use between charges.
