Same problem as well.
If I use N800 --> USB -- > Macbook I can't unmount normally.

I grab both cards, and drag them to the trash, and in that 1 second they disappear from the screen, unplug the Nokia. Works for me, they don't reappear.

Running into the same problem here. I have to yank the USB cable immediately after seeing the disk icon removed from the Finder. But using Disk Utility will be a fine workaround until a better solution is found or the problem is fixed.
