It didn't work before for me, but now I deleted my local account(on my N900, that is) and did a new one and now both send and receive(before only receive would work) works perfectly

I just want to be able to send emails from either my Gmail or Live account. Is that possible without setting up MFE?

and oh where does the device store emails? Will it take up any of the rootfs space? hopefully not?

Noticed today that my email from Gmail does not work and checked here. Following the post below, I changed the settings on email.nokia.com for my gmail account but still doesn't work. Anyone have better luck?

After using the wizard to set up my gmail account on my N900, it would receive but not send mail. After changing the outgoing server as in cheungs' post above, the issue was resolved.

Strangely, other people (not necessarily N900 users) seem to have resolved a similar issue last year by performing the reverse operation.

Ah well. If it works, it works.

I have the above issue with GMail through Nokia Messaging.

Resolved it by removing the account and then adding it back again and now I can send fine.

It's quick and easy so worth a try.

I had the same problem, sorted it out after 20 minutes.
First make sure "IMAP" is enabled online in ur gmail settings!!!!!!!

on ur phone...create new email account wizard...

Use "USA" as ur country(even though im in UK) -> Select "Gmail" add ur user name and password as it is!!(use usa because other countries may bring up a googlemail.com account rather than a gmail.com account)

Restart ur phone. Should work!
Settings should look like this...

Account title: Gmail (or watever u wish)
Name: Your Name
User name: yourname@gmail.com
Password: ******
email address: yourname@gmail.com
secure authentication: leave this unchecked
incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
secure connection : SSL (IMAP4S)
port: 993
outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
secure authentication : login
user name: yourname@gmail.com
password: ******
secure connection : SSL
Port: 465
use connection specific smtp servers: leave this unchecked

Done!! Restart ur phone, Will definately work as long as u enable your IMAP in gmail settings online!
