You would need to ask the Ventrilo developers to target the N900 (or at least, ARM) with a build, as Ventrilo is closed source.

Mangler is a great app for linux that lets u to connect ventrilo. They also have an android port in the making but nothing for the n900 ... maybe a crafty dev could create a port. that would be awesome

I've tried to compile Mangler on the SDK using a svn pull, but it fails because of Gtk+, which is 2.14 in maemo and 2.16 is required by the package.
While running dpkg-buildpackage i got the following error:
Code:
mangler.cpp:66: error: no matching function for call to 'Gdk::Pixbuf::create_from_inline(int, const guint8 [16409])'
/usr/include/gdkmm-2.4/gdkmm/pixbuf.h:672: note: candidates are: static Glib::RefPtr<Gdk::Pixbuf> Gdk::Pixbuf::create_from_inline(int, const guint8*, bool, std::auto_ptr<Glib::Error>&)
I also had to modify files in the debian/ folder of the source:
1) debian/control requires debconf > 7, we have 5 in maemo, modify; also remove libg15 and libxosd, we don't have a G15 keyboard, neither we need an overlay on the N900
2) debian/rules; go to configure and add --disable-g15 --disable-xosd , as we don't need that
3) edit configure to look for gtk+ 2.14.0 instad of 2.16.0 as is the requirement from Mangler's developers

Well i'm stuck here, 'cause I'm no coder and I don't know how to hack the source in order to make it work. If anyone can help...

Also, Mangler might work in the easy-debian chroot: anyone knows how to compile for that environment, or a link to a tutorial? (can't find any)

Sooo...
I managed to compile Mangler for Easy-debian. It "works for me", albeit it's barely usable.
I had to pull some packages from squeeze, and it worked on ALSA only, not on pulseaudio.
Receiving works well, broadcasting is low and lags. I used WiFi only, the 3G connection is too laggy for me (operator's fault).
I have no idea where to upload my deb, is rapidshare ok to y'all?

Edit: So here's the Rapidshare link of my package. Good luck with it, and beware, I haven't tested it thoroughly!

It would be nice to see a mumble client as a protocol plugin for the n900 too.
