This is probably real noob question. Is this better than using the Nokia Software Updater while connected to the PC? Just want to learn.
Thanks,
Doc

I prefer to use Application Manager for updating because Nokia Software Updater (NSU) left my N900 in a non-functioning state the last time I used it. I've never had an issue with Application Manager
My N900 works today because of this community of support. Always ask the question if you have it.

Doing the update via App Manager means all your applications and settings will be left untouched. Using NSU (or the flasher program) will rewrite the whole rootfs, losing all the installed applications and the system settings.
I'd recommend using App Manager for updating wherever possible, and only using flasher if you have a problem. I'd also recommend not using NSU at all - it seems much less reliable than flasher.

Be warned though if you tap on the '!' and don't install the update the N900 won't alert you an update is available again, you'll have to manually 'check for updates' from Application Manager.

Really? I thought that when I hit the "ignore" button, then the app manager will notify me again the next day. I guess I was wrong. So what is the consequence if ignoring an update? The automatic update will not notify me of updates the given app anymore? or will notify me of the next version? or?
