1) Could you tell me exactly what the details you have in the repo for Extras (http, etc, etc)

2) Is there anything in this wiki page that sounds like you are missing/doing wrong: http://wiki.maemo.org/Installing_applications

3) Have you tried downloading the .deb and installing it from terminal? (Or just through apt-get install (which doesn't require the .deb to be local).

4) After an install fails can you see (and post here) the log file for it?
(Menu -> Tools -> Log)

5) Are you able to write to (or delete files from) your internal memory card or is it in read-only mode? (I've had that happen myself once or twice but there are fixes for that).

And no, you didn't buy an expensive Skype phone - assuming there is nothing h/w related wrong with your N810 (which I doubt) most anything can be fixed.

Silvermountain!
I was able to install Canola! I believe the repositories were causing the issue. However, in the Canola (Canola2) screen I only see My music & My photos. I do not see My videos. Last.fm is also missing! I did install the last.fm plugin & restarted application. But I don't see it. Last.fm is the reason I want to use Canola!

The canola I see is different from what I see here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k126_zmcIc
This is what I need

My Maemo Extras catalogue details:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras
Distribution: Blank
Components: free non-free
Disabled: unchecked

I tried apt-get install, but system asks password. I am told I need root access for this. Have not tried that (root access yet). But for now, I may not need it as Canola is installed. But no Last.fm yet

I had reformatted my internal memory earlier in the evening through the USB method.

Now I just hope I can get Last.fm working!!
Thanks for all your reponses!

Don't know anything about Canola and last.fm as I never really liked it But did you download the plug-in AND activated it in Canola?

I use a combination of other applications (like Vagalume, Streamtuner, Panucci, etc (see my signature line ).

Btw, to gain root access (in a shell) the easiest way I've found is to use http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/rootsh/

The normal disclaimer stands though: Don't do weird stuff in root unless you know what the weird stuff does.

No last.fm? OK.
But you use Vagalume, then help me out here please
I just installed vagalume, logged into last.fm, when I open it and click play I see message: No more content to play. What's all that about?

When I click on Vagalume --> Menu --> Play Radio --> Music tagged, I see message: Invalid radio URL. Either this radio doesn't exit or it is only available for last.fm subscribers. I get the same message for other options like play artist etc...Any ideas?

Thanks again.

If you have logged in (on your tablet) and go >Menu>Play Radio>Music tagged (you need to type something in here. Type in "Soul" for instance). When you click OK the music SHOULD start.

Second time lucky!
When I entered classic rock/rock before, nothing happened. I entered soul and it worked!
And just now I entered Classic Rock, it is working!!
I guess maybe it was because of weak internet connection in my motel.
Sweet dreams! I am done for the day!
Thanks bajillion for your replies!

Happy it worked out for you. There are a LOT of great applications for the N810. The internet radio through Media Player with the applet on desktop is pretty fun to play with as well

I'll try that one, does it have any name, or is it just called Media player?

It is already on your N810 It's called Media player.
It can play media - but what I use it for is play internet radio stations (bbc, etc).

You can also go the desktop and on the top menu select >Select Applets and select something called Media Player or something (can't remember) and you will get a small app on your desktop that you can use to play things through (in order to ADD radio stations you need to go through the actual Media Player application though). I got maybe 15-20 stations set as favorites so I never go through the Media Player application anymore. When i feel like some radio I turn on the applet and pick the station I want from the desktop.

Also - if you are new to the N810 you might find something useful in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=52124
