You need to also install the MSN protocol, one of the accompanying packages.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I did have this installed: maemo-gaim-protocol-msn. Is this the one that I should have? Thanks!

Sorry, I read that you did but your error message makes it seem like it wasn't running... I was wondering if maybe you had downloaded the .deb and just not actually installed it.

If it shows up under Application Manager as installed, I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling it. Something may have gone wrong.

EDIT: ha! Based on how you disappeared from MSN just as you told me it was starting to work, I'm assuming the problem was you already being logged in. If, for instance, you're logged into MSN on your PC client, you'll have to exit to log in on the N800. Was that the case?

EDIT 2: Keyser told me he retyped his password then changed his alias from "Keyser Soze" to "Keyser". I'm wondering if GAIM (and/or MSN) disallows spaces in the alias field.

EDIT 3: more troubleshooting; Keyser tried the alias again with a space and it worked. Nutty. Any clues out there?

It's so strange. I tried reinstalling the protocol plug-in and it didn't help. The error would come up right after I hit "Sign On" so I guess it wasn't even trying to connect at all. I went into the Accounts setup and re-entered the password, changed the Alias to something without space. Now it works! I thought it was that Alias field doesn't allow spaces but afterwards I went back and changed the Alias to "Keyser Soze" and it still works now. Really don't know what was wrong in my first attempts...
