I'm having some success analysing how ToyCamera AnalogColor produces it's effects by passing some test images through it and seeing what happens when you move the sliders. I think I should be able to make my effects produce something similar.

Bratag, thanks for the offer of help. I may well take you up on it when I get stuck!

Well, I've spent quite a long time now playing around with different filters and effects and I've knocked together this quick Qt application to try them all out. I'm quite pleased with the results!

As an added bonus, although I developed my Qt test app on a desktop machine it cross-compiles to N900 with no modifications. I love Qt! If anyone thinks it's useful, I'll develop this into a releasable application that can be used to apply classic photo effects to existing photos. Let me know what you think.

Don't worry - it won't be long! I've been working pretty hard on this and I'm just getting the user interface together.

I'm not sure what the performance will be like on the N900 though. I may have to spend some time optimising my image processing functions to make it process images at a reasonable speed.

I'll put some screenshots of the UI up for comment when I've got it to a suitable stage.

Remember that I started out by developing a camera app. The tool that allows you to apply effects to existing photos was only written so I could tweak and test the effects before putting them in the camera app so I developed it on a desktop machine so I wasn't really concerned with performance.

At the moment a 480x320 preview image takes about 5s to process on the N900. I am yet to try it with a full size image. I have no doubt that the N900 can do it but I will probaby need to optimise the code a bit to make it usable.
